Thomas C. Smith
President & CEO
In 2003 Thomas C. Smith, Qualified Agent and Certified Public Accountant, founded AmGuard Corporation after ten years of financial management experience in the security guard industry. Tom’s background also includes twenty-two years of experience as a Vice President and Internal Auditor for two top-ten nationwide banks.
Mark A. Rettig
Vice President of Operations and Sales
Mark A. Rettig, a former United States Marine with 15+ years’ experience in sales and operations, joined the AmGuard Team in early 2023 as Vice President of Operations and Sales. Mark’s responsibilities are talent acquisition, guard management, client relations, and new business development.
Our Philosophy
Our philosophy is that if we effectively manage our employees and treat them fairly, they are more likely to serve our clients diligently. Communication of expectations and standards is key.
Clear Expectations
We utilize a detailed employee policy handbook and written operating procedures (Post Orders) unique to each location to clarify what is expected; we stress compliance with these documents.
Supervision
Consistent and proactive supervision and follow-up are also key. Many companies simply send someone to the post and assume all is well until the client complains. We, however, adhere to the theory that employees might not always do what we expect, but they definitely will do what we inspect; therefore, we emphasize unannounced supervisory post visits. If something is wrong, we want to be the first to know.
